Avitale Grape Seed Extract Capsules are a dietary supplement containing 200 mg of OPC-rich grape seed extract with at least 60% OPC (at least 120 mg) as well as vitamins C and E to protect cells from oxidative stress.

Avitale Grape Seed Extract Capsules contain grape seed extract, which is produced using a particularly gentle process exclusively from grape seeds from fruit grown in France and is adjusted to an OPC content of at least 60% (equivalent to at least 120mg). The total proanthocyanin content (PAC) is at least 95%, which corresponds to at least 190mg PAC per capsule.

• OPC is the abbreviation for oligomeric proanthocyanidins. They are secondary plant substances and belong to the large group of polyphenols.
• The raw materials for OPCs are found in many plants and fruits, particularly in bark, pith and peel.

OPC was discovered in 1948 by the French scientist Professor Dr Jack Masquelier. He first extracted the substance from the shells of peanuts and later discovered it in the bark of the Pinus maritima, a French pine tree. In 1955, Masquelier discovered that the substance OPC could also be extracted in much larger quantities from red grapes, specifically from the seeds.

Oxidative stress and free radicals

Free radicals are formed as by-products of metabolic processes involving oxygen, such as respiration.

Other triggers for their formation are environmental pollutants, stimulants, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, UV rays and stress. Normally, the organism's protective systems are sufficient - it only becomes critical when these are overloaded. This is because an imbalance between free radicals and protective antioxidants favours the development of "oxidative stress", which can have an impact on general well-being. Cell protection against oxidative stress can be achieved through an adequate supply of antioxidant substances such as vitamin C and vitamin E.
