- The term ‘tea tree’ (Melaleuca) encompasses several species of shrubs and trees of the genus Melaleuca, which belongs to the myrtle family. The most important tea tree is the species Melaleuca alternifolia, which is native to Australia and from which alva tea tree oil is extracted.
- The essential oil is derived from the leaves and twig tips. It is extracted using steam distillation, a method that preserves the active ingredients. Due to its antiseptic, bactericidal and fungicidal properties, tea tree oil is most commonly used in dermatology. Gently extracted via steam distillation, the highly potent active ingredients from the leaves and twig tips of the Australian Melaleuca alternifolia can unleash their full power. Thanks to its antimicrobial properties, it is highly versatile and should be a staple in every household and on every journey.

Cultivation takes place on small plots to prevent monocultures, large-scale deforestation and the associated impact on the water table. Irrigation is carried out using sprinklers immediately after planting and during periods of extreme drought. No synthetic pesticides or artificial fertilisers are used; weed control is carried out by livestock and by hand, whilst pest control is managed manually or by nature itself. Despite the significant amount of labour involved, yields remain low; on top of this, there are the costs associated with the associations’ inspections. However, what remains is a naturally pure essential oil from certified organic cultivation and wild growth, without favouring monoculture, derived directly from the Melaleuca alternifolia plant, without being diluted with oils from other species. This is the only way to produce a highly potent and excellent-quality oil in accordance with the alva principle.
