Aknichthol® Lotio is a topical treatment for acne. Aknichthol® Lotio is used to reduce the number of comedones in cases of mild to moderate acne vulgaris.

It contains sulphonated shale oil (sodium bituminosulphonate (ICHTYOL®-sodium), light) and inhibits the excessive production of sebum (‘oily skin’); it also has anti-inflammatory and mild antibacterial properties. Salicylic acid, through its pH-lowering effect, aids the absorption of ICHTYOL® light into the skin.

Aknichthol® Lotio is used to reduce the number of comedones in mild to moderate acne vulgaris.

Hormonal fluctuations, as well as the use of certain medicines (e.g. the contraceptive pill), can trigger acne. It mainly occurs on the chest, back and face. The cause is a disruption in skin cell formation, which leads to the hair follicle opening becoming blocked. Sebum and pus produced by acne-causing bacteria cannot drain away. The sebaceous gland swells, resulting in blackheads or pustules. Prompt action is now required to prevent the condition from becoming chronic and to avoid the subsequent formation of acne scars.

Directions for use

Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, AKNICHTHOL Lotion should be applied twice daily. Twice daily, in the morning and in the evening, cleanse the affected areas of skin using a soap-free cleanser and pat dry gently.
Method of application: Shake the bottle well, apply approx. 20 drops of the lotion to a cotton pad and spread it evenly over the skin so that the affected areas are lightly covered. In the beard area, apply the lotion in the direction of beard growth. Do not treat the eyelids or lips.
Duration of use: The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the condition. Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, treatment should not exceed 12 weeks.
Use in children: No data are available regarding use in children.

Ingredients

The active ingredients are sodium bituminosulphonate (Ichthyol® sodium), light, and salicylic acid in an aqueous-alcoholic base.
100 g of suspension contains: 1.0 g of sodium bituminosulphonate (Ichthyol® sodium), light, and 0.5 g of salicylic acid.
The other ingredients are: highly dispersed silica, lauromacrogol 200, 2-propanol, maize starch, medium-chain triglycerides, titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxides and iron(III) hydroxide oxide (E172), purified water.
