ActiMaris® Sensitive Wound Irrigation Solution for skin, mucous membranes and wounds. For pain-free irrigation of colonised and contaminated wounds. For cleansing and moisturising sensitive and irritated skin and mucous membranes.

ActiMaris® Sensitive Wound Irrigation Solution consists of water, sea salt (1.2%), sodium oxychlorite (NaOCl) (0.04%) and hypochlorous acid (HOCl) (0.004%).

Oxychlorite (NaOCl) and sea salt have a reducing effect on pathogens typically found in wounds, without damaging the tissue. Its decontaminatingeffect against MRSA / VRE has been tested and found to be effective. The oxidative effect of hypochlorite and the hypertonic sea salt solution isalso responsible for neutralising wound odours. The alkaline pH of ActiMaris® Sensitive Wound Irrigation Solutionfurthersupportsthe controlled release of oxygenby providing OH ions (as part of a naturallybalanced redox system).

The main component of sea salt is sodium chloride (NaCl = 98%), along with 2% other sea salts. The increased salt content of ActiMaris® Sensitive Wound Irrigation Solution, in turn, ensures an optimal hyperosmotic effect, so thatperi-wound swelling subsides rapidly.

Indications

ActiMaris® Sensitive Wound Irrigation Solution is suitable:

for cleansing, moistening, decontamination, biofilm dissolution, reducing swelling and physiological debridement, and for creating anoptimal ‘microenvironment’ for:

acute mechanical wounds (skin lacerations, bite wounds, cuts and grazes, lacerations and contusions) andpost-operative wounds
chronic wounds (pressure ulcers, arteriovenous ulcers, diabetic ulcers)
necrotic, foul-smelling wounds and tumour ulcers, including those with cavities (hollow spaces)
thermal and chemical wounds (1st to 3rd-degree burns)
catheter insertion sites, PEG tubes and drains
venous ulcers
intrathoracic, peritoneal and stoma irrigation
for intraoperative cleaning and irrigation of superficial wounds.
for moistening inactive dressings and wound dressings.
for loosening encrusted dressings or other encrusted wound dressings during dressing changes.
for local treatment of the skin and mucous membranes in cases of inflammatory and infectious conditions.
for the prevention of infection of the mucous membranes and skin, in cases of burns and other types of wounds.

Directions for use

ActiMaris® Sensitive wound irrigation solution can be used at room temperature (not exceeding 30 °C). When irrigating wounds thatare particularlyprone to pain, it isrecommendedto warm the required amountto room temperaturein a separatecontainerbefore use to increase comfort(do not heat the irrigation solution to more than 30 °C).
The duration and frequency of use should be adapted to the individual wound conditions and should be continueduntil all debris and necrotic tissue can be easily removed and the wound appears clean. Depending on the wound, dressing changes fornon-infected woundsmaybe carried out every 2–3 days, in accordance with the indication and stage of healing; whether necrotic tissue and debriscanbe removed mechanicallymust be decided on a case-by-case basis. In cases where dressings are difficult to remove,it is recommended to moisten the wound dressings with thewound irrigation solution for at least 5 minutes until the dressings can be gently removed without traumatising the wound surfaces.
In the case of thick, firmly adherent fibrinous deposits or necrotic tissue, surgical debridement is recommended as the primary treatment.
For wound cleansing, inert dressings or wound pads soaked in ActiMaris® Sensitive wound irrigation solution maybe used.
Application should preferably follow the classic wet/dry phase (‘Moist Balance’) approach.
The duration of the moist phase shouldbe adjusted accordingly, depending on the thickness and firmness of the fibrinous deposits, microbial colonisation, maceration of the wound edges orirritation.

Stable wound environment, clean wound bed with no signs of microbial colonisation:

Recommendation: 5–10 minutes’ application time

Fibrin coating, with no signs of microbial colonisation; this also applies in cases of maceration or irritation of the wound edges:

Recommendation: 15 minutes’ application time

Fibrin coating, foul-smelling wounds heavily colonised by bacteria:

Recommendation: 20 minutes’ application time

When using the wound irrigation solution, ensure that the bottle does not come into contact with the patient’s skin or wound, toprevent contaminationor the spread of microorganisms.

Ingredients

Composition: Water, sea salt, sodium oxychlorite. A clear, colourless, alkaline and hypertonic sea salt solution with a characteristic odour; contains 1.2% sea salt (Sal Maris), 0.04% NaOCland 0.004% HOCl.
