- In our latitudes, the population tends to consume little iodine because we rarely eat seafood. Artificially iodised table salt has led to fewer people suffering from goitres. If sufficient iodised table salt is used, no additional iodine supplement should be used. If, on the other hand, non-iodised salt is used or cooked with little salt, the use of kelp seaweed (plant-bound iodine) is an ideal dietary supplement.
