3M™ ACTISORB™ Silver 220 is a primary wound dressing made of activated carbon with silver (silver content: 33 µg/cm2), enclosed in a non-adherent nylon cover for the treatment of wounds with bacterial contamination, infection and wound odour.

ACTISORB™ Silver 220 is a wound dressing made of activated carbon impregnated with silver (33 μg/cm²). ACTISORB™ Silver 220 wound dressing promotes wound healing through effective wound cleansing by binding and immobilising microorganisms that contaminate the wounds. The silver combats the microorganisms within the wound dressing and thus reduces the formation of germs in the wound and prevents possible infection. ACTISORB™ Silver 220 wound dressing is well tolerated and, thanks to the principle of physical wound cleansing, is free from side effects and the formation of resistance, as can be the case with antibiotics, for example.

As ACTISORB™ Silver 220 wound dressing also neutralises wound odours, the quality of life of both patient and user is improved.

3M™ ACTISORB™ Silver 220 differs from other activated charcoal dressings; its triple action not only masks odours but also combats their cause.

  • Activated charcoal traps unpleasant odours in thedressing1
  • Activated charcoal binds bacteria and toxins that can impair the wound healing process
  • Silver kills bacteria in the wound dressing2

3M™ ACTISORB™ Silver 220 is effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms associated with wound infections (including MRSA and VRE)3. 3M™ ACTISORB™ Silver 220 eliminates foul odours, improving the quality of life for patients and caregivers1.

Wound odour is often accompanied by increased exudation. 3M™ ACTISORB™ Silver 220 can be combined with a suitable wound dressing to manage wound exudate and maintain a moist wound healing environment1.

Areas of application:

3M™ ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressings are indicated for ulcerative, traumatic and/or surgical wounds where bacterial contamination, infection or odour occurs, such as:

  • Decubitus (pressure) ulcers
  • Surgical wounds
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • First and second degree burns
  • Venous ulcers

Application

Wound preparation:

  • Firstly, dry, necrotic tissue must be removed by surgical, enzymatic or autolytic debridement.

Application:

  • Before use, ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing can be moistened with saline or Ringer's solution.
  • The adsorbent property of ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Wound Dressing is most effective when the dressing is in direct contact with the wound.
  • ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Wound Dressing can be applied on both sides.
  • ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Wound Dressing can easily be packed into deep wounds.
  • The smooth polyamide coating ensures that the dressing can be removed without sticking to most wounds.
  • If required, ACTISORB™ Silver 220 wound dressing can be placed on a non-adherent wound dressing. It should be noted that the mechanism of action of ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Wound Dressing is not impaired by excess ointments or fats.
  • Depending on the degree of exudation, an absorbent secondary dressing can be applied to the ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Wound Dressing.
  • The dressing should be fixed in the way that appears most appropriate for the indication.
  • The dressing should be changed under sterile conditions.

Dressing change:

  • ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Wound Dressing can remain on the wound for up to 7 days depending on the degree of exudation, while the absorbent secondary dressing can be changed as required. At the start of treatment, ACTISORB™ Silver 220 dressing may need to be changed every 24 hours.

Please note: ACTISORB™ Silver 220 Wound Dressing should not be cut to size, otherwise carbon particles may get into the wounds and discolour them.
