The trace element selenium is found in soil and rock and enters the food chain via plants and cereals. In Europe, soils are generally not particularly rich in selenium, which is why Central Europeans are often deficient in this essential trace element.

As a radical scavenger, selenium protects against oxidative cell damage and supports the immune system. As an organic selenium compound, selenomethionine is very well absorbed by the body.
