For the targeted intake of Griffonia extract
- The climbing shrub Griffonia simplicifolia, also known as the ‘African black bean’, is native to the rainforests of West Africa .
- The plant’s seeds are the main source of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), a naturally occurring amino acid. In the body, it is produced from the essential amino acid L-tryptophan and, chemically speaking, is an intermediate required for the production of serotonin.
- Although serotonin is found in some foods, it cannot cross the blood-brain barrier in this form and must therefore be constantly produced anew in the brain. Many people are also familiar with serotonin by its nickname, the ‘happiness hormone’. This is because, alongside numerous other processes, it also plays a role in regulating mood and well-being.
