Product properties

Inactivation of germs

octenilin® wound gel shows excellent inactivation of germs after just 1 minute of contact time. This was determined in a quantitative suspension test with a high protein load ("dirty conditions"). The results showed that the germ inactivation in octenilin® wound gel was sufficiently effective against all test organisms after just 1 minute of contact time.

Dr P. Goroncy-Bermes, Schülke & Mayr R&D, Norderstedt, 2 March 2007

Treatment of second-degree burns

octenilin® wound gel was applied to 107 patients with grade IIa skin burns. The moist dressing was easy to handle and could be left on the wound for up to 5 days due to its preservative properties. Pain was minimised and the number of dressing changes required was reduced. 45% of patients reported a pleasant feeling or freedom from pain on initial application. No intolerance reactions were observed Ottomann et al; Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin Zentrum für Schwerbrandverletzte mit Plastischer Chirurgie Berlin, 9 May 2005

Tissue compatibility and biocompatibility

Non-irritating, non-sensitising, painless, no tissue toxicity with inhibition of granulation and epithelialisation. The good tissue compatibility of octenidine has been proven by many years of clinical experience and clinical studies on chronic wounds.

How to use

First rinse and clean the wound extensively (e.g. with octenilin® wound irrigation solution) to remove easily detachable coatings. Then treat the wound with octenilin® wound gel and cover with suitable wound dressings. octenilin® wound gel can be left on the wound until the next dressing change. The frequency of dressing changes depends on the nature of the wound and the amount of exudate and must be adapted to the respective wound situation, but should be carried out after a maximum of 3 days. In combination with fat gauze, the dressing should be changed daily and the wound cleaned. The application should be repeated until all coatings can be removed and the wound is visually clean. Shelf life 6 weeks after opening (20ml bellows).
