The Comfort Shield® MDS® eye drops moisturise and protect your eyes for a long time in case of dryness, irritation and when wearing contact lenses. Preservative-free for high tolerability.

Comfort Shield is a sterile, preservative-free, viscoelastic, clear protective shield for the cornea. It is an isotonic liquid that contains only substances that are natural components of the human eye. Comfort Shield therefore does not cause allergies and can also be used by allergy sufferers. Comfort Shield contains 1.20 mmol/l phosphate, which is within the physiological range. Comfort Shield eye drops can be used as often as necessary to provide relief from pain and discomfort and are compatible with all contact lenses.

Comfort Shield mimics the function of natural tears, protecting and moisturising the surface of the eye and making it lubricated. This provides long-lasting relief for dry eyes caused by:

  • Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (Sjögren's syndrome)
  • Corneal injuries, erosions, surgical procedures on the cornea
  • Contact lens wear
  • Side effects of medication
  • Hormonal disorders, menopause
  • Air conditioning, wind, cold, dry heat, dust, smoke, air pollution
  • Screen work, long car journeys, long-haul flights
  • Swimming in chlorinated water

Comfort Shield eye drops contain sodium hyaluronate with a very high molecular weight (Hylan A; intrinsic viscosity 2.9-3.5 m³/kg). The concentration of only 0.15% in combination with the very high molecular weight creates highly viscoelastic properties of the eye drops, resulting in excellent wetting of the ocular surface and stabilisation of the tear film, which persists even after blinking. In an international multi-centre clinical study of patients with severe dry eye, Comfort Shield eye drops were shown to provide superior relief from the symptoms of ocular surface disease, particularly irritation, pain and unstable vision.

Chronic ocular surface disease is often associated with corneal nerve impairment. It has been shown that regular use of Comfort Shield eye drops over a period of eight weeks leads to recovery of the corneal nerves. This is of particular relevance for patients suffering from diabetes mellitus, neurotrophic keratopathy, autoimmune diseases such as Sjögren's syndrome or graft-versus-host disease and damaged nerves following eye surgery.

How to use

  1. Tear off the safety tab of the bottle before first use; Comfort Shield MDS can then be used for 180 days.
  2. Remove the protective cap.
  3. Apply one drop directly to the eye or contact lens by squeezing the bottle.
  4. Close the bottle with the protective cap; dispose of the bottle with the household waste 180 days after opening.

By gently massaging the eyelid with the eyelids closed, the product spreads more quickly on the surface of the eye after instillation.

Precautions and warnings: Do not use if the safety tab is damaged. Do not touch the eye with the bottle. Avoid contact of the opening of the bottle with other surfaces or hands due to the risk of contamination. Do not use together with medicines for external eye use. Do not use on infected eyes. Visual acuity may be temporarily reduced after use. In this case, do not drive or operate machinery. Wait until visual acuity has returned to normal. Note the opening date on the bottle. Dispose of the opened bottle with household waste 180 days after tearing off the safety tab.
