That is why it is particularly important to support the body's own defences with vitamins and trace elements. The micronutrients selenium, vitamins A and C contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system.
- Selenium is an essential trace element and an important cell protection factor ("free radical scavenger"). Free radicals are formed during many metabolic reactions in the body and through environmental pollution (e.g. radiation, pollutants). Like vitamins C and E, selenium is an antioxidant that protects the cells from this oxidative stress. Selenium also makes an important contribution to the function of the thyroid gland, which is involved in a particularly large number of metabolic processes in our body.
- Vitamin A (contained in the form of beta-carotene) is a component of the visual pigment and is therefore of great importance for maintaining vision and is therefore often referred to as the "eye vitamin". Vitamin A also supports the maintenance of healthy skin and mucous membranes.
