Five-leaf jiaogulan (bot.: Gynostemma pentaphyllum) is a wild plant from the cucurbit family (Cucurbitaceae) native to Asia. The name is derived from the Chinese word Xiancao ("twisted vine orchid"). Only the striking leaf compositions with the five individual leaves are used from the perennial, wild-growing Jiaogulan climbing plant, which can reach a length of up to eight metres.
