Weißdorn ist eine der wichtigsten Heilpflanzen im Bereich der Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen. Weißdorn wird seit mehr als einem Jahrhundert als unterstützende Heilpflanze beim typischen Altersherz empfohlen. Während man diese Empfehlung früher auf Beobachtungen und der langjährigen Tradition in der Volksheilkunde stützte, kennen wir heute den Wirkmechanismus dieser Pflanze.

Im Bereich der Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen genießt die Heilpflanze Weißdorn einen hohen Stellenwert. Präparate mit Weißdorn verstärken die Durchblutung der Herzkranzgefäße und des Herzmuskels und verbessern somit die Kontraktionskraft des Herzens. Deshalb wird die Heilpflanze häufig unterstützend zur klassischen Therapie bei beginnender Herzinsuffizienz eingesetzt.

Zur unterstützenden Behandlung von leichten Formen der Herzschwäche wird Weißdorn vorzugsweise in Form standardisierter Präparate eingenommen. In der Apotheke sind sowohl flüssige Zubereitungen, als auch Tabletten oder Kapseln erhältlich.

Die Einnahme als Tee empfiehlt sich hingegen eher zur Prävention von Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen. Als Tagesdosierung wird dreimal täglich eine Tasse Tee mit jeweils 1,5 g der getrockneten Blätter und Blüten empfohlen.
