Anatis Chondroitin + MSM + Glucosamine capsules are a hand-encapsulated, vegan dietary supplement containing valuable nutrients such as chondroitin sulphate, glucosamine sulphate and methylsulfonylmethane.

Chondroitin is found in human cartilage (‘chondros’ is the Greek word for cartilage) and is an important ‘building block’ for all bodily structures composed of type 2 collagen, such as cartilage and synovial fluid (or synovial fluid).

What is new is the vegan form of chondroitin; otherwise, animal sources are used, such as pig’s noses or ears, tracheas from cows and pigs, shark or bovine cartilage, and cocks’ combs. However, the body’s ability to utilise animal-derived chondroitin is not very good, which is why quite large amounts are usually recommended as a daily dose.

Chondroitin obtained through fermentation, on the other hand, is absorbed twice as effectively – only half the dose is required. Why? The chondroitin molecules in the vegan chondroitin are much more similar to human chondroitin and are so small that the body can absorb them unchanged. The so-called sulphate groups are located in the same position as in human chondroitin.

Glucosamine is also sourced from a vegan source here, rather than from shellfish (prawns, crabs, lobsters), offal or fibre-rich meat, which have the disadvantage of containing pro-inflammatory arachidonic acid. Glucosamine is present here in the crystalline sulphate form (glucosamine sulphate) and is preferable to a hydrochloride (HCl) preparation, as sulphate compounds act as excellent carriers for the relatively large glucosamine molecules across cell membranes. It is important to ensure that the dose is spread out over the course of the day.
