Zymafluor is used to prevent dental caries (tooth decay) in children and adults, in cases of increased caries activity or where local fluoridation through brushing with fluoride-containing toothpastes is insufficient.
It is best to seek advice from your dentist regarding the most suitable fluoridation measures for you.
Tooth enamel consists mainly of hydroxyapatite. On its surface, bacteria in dental plaque and food cause mineral loss through acid formation. Components of saliva (e.g. calcium, phosphate, fluoride) lead to natural remineralisation. This repair process is overwhelmed when dental plaque covers the enamel surfaces. Mineral loss predominates, and tooth decay develops.
Zymafluor incorporates fluoride into the tooth enamel, thereby increasing its resistance; it inhibits acid-producing bacteria and accelerates the deposition of other mineral salts from saliva.
When taken regularly, the protective effect of fluoride applies to both milk teeth and permanent teeth. However, the most important factor is regular tooth brushing, particularly with fluoride-containing toothpastes.

- tablets per day (for 0.3 mg to 0.7 mg of fluoride per litre of drinking water): *2 Zymafluor 0.25 mg tablets
If the fluoride concentration in drinking water exceeds 0.7 mg/l, no fluoride tablets should be taken.
Method of administration:
- Zymafluor is usually administered once a day. Allow Zymafluor tablets to dissolve slowly in the mouth; preferably in the evening after brushing teeth. (If the child’s age permits, allow the tablets to dissolve alternately on the right and left sides between the gum and cheek.) For young children, the tablets may be crushed, dissolved in a little water and added to a bottle or a solid meal (but not in combination with milk).
