Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is also produced by the body itself. However, the amount of hyaluronic acid produced decreases with age. Hyaluronic acid is found in many tissues in the body: in connective tissue, the eyes, cartilage and skin. The largest amount of hyaluronic acid is found in the skin. It consists of three layers: the epidermis, dermis and subcutis. In addition to collagen, hyaluronic acid is also found in the dermis.

However, the small molecule size impairs the special properties of hyaluronic acid. In particular, its water-binding properties suffer from the small molecule size.
