Volumatic inhalation device, 1 ST

Product information "Volumatic inhalation device"

View package leaflet

The Volumatic inhalation device is a large volume inhalation aid (spacer) designed to make it easier for you to use your metered dose inhaler effectively.

It helps to ensure that the medicine reaches the lungs as the site of action and is not deposited in the throat, where it may be less effective or cause irritation. It simplifies the use of your metered dose inhaler as you do not have to trigger and inhale the metered dose inhaler at the same time.

How to use
How to prepare the Volumatic inhalation device for use with your metered dose inhaler:

  1. Attach both halves of the Volumatic inhaler together. To do this, bring the notch on one half together with the insertion point on the other (marked with small arrows in the illustration) and press both halves firmly together.
  2. Remove the protective cap from the mouth tube of the dosing aerosol. Check the inside and outside of the mouth tube to ensure that it is clean and free of foreign objects. If the MDI is new or has not been used for a week or longer, hold the MDI with the mouth tube facing away from you and release one or two sprays into the air.
  3. Shake the MDI aerosol 4 or 5 times to ensure that any loose debris is removed and the contents of the MDI aerosol are evenly mixed.
  4. Insert the metered dose inhaler firmly into the opening of the Volumatic inhaler opposite the mouthpiece. Check the inside and outside of the mouthpiece of the Volumatic inhaler to ensure that it is clean.

How to use the Volumatic inhaler with your metered dose inhaler:

  1. Hold the inhaler as shown in the illustration. Breathe out as far as possible.
  2. Then place the mouthpiece of the Volumatic inhaler in your mouth between your teeth and enclose it well with your lips, but do not bite on the mouthpiece. Your lips must not cover the side air inlets in the mouthpiece, otherwise the valve will not work.
  3. Now press down the metered dose inhaler with your fingers to release a spray into the Volumatic inhaler. Immediately afterwards, inhale deeply and evenly through your mouth (one slow and deep breath or 5 normal breaths) to ensure that the medicine reaches your lungs. You do not need to remove the Volumatic inhaler from your mouth while exhaling. You should hear the valve in the mouthpiece 'click' or rattle as you inhale and exhale. If you cannot hear the rattling sound, hold the Volumatic inhaler at an angle and try again. Do not spray all the sprays you have been prescribed into the Volumatic inhaler at once to inhale them. You must inhale each spray individually.
  4. Now hold your breath; take the Volumatic inhaler out of your mouth and remove your finger(s) from the metered dose inhaler. Continue to hold your breath for a few seconds or as long as you can.
  5. Breathe out.
  6. If the doctor has prescribed more than one spray per treatment, remove the metered dose inhaler from the Volumatic inhalation device by tilting the upper part of the metered dose inhaler with the active ingredient container forwards. Repeat steps 3 to 9, waiting about 30 seconds before inhaling the next spray.
  7. After use, remove the metered dose inhaler from the Volumatic inhaler and replace the protective cap on the mouth tube to protect it from dust and lint.

Notes: If you use different dosing aerosols with the Volumatic inhalation device, repeat the individual steps from step 2. You do not need to wait longer than 30 seconds between using different dosing aerosols. If you have difficulty triggering a spray while the mouthpiece of the Volumatic inhaler is in your mouth, you can also trigger a spray into the Volumatic inhaler and immediately afterwards place the mouthpiece of the Volumatic inhaler in your mouth between your teeth and inhale (as described in step 7). If you have received other instructions for using the Volumatic inhaler, please follow them carefully. Talk to your doctor, healthcare professional or pharmacist if you have any difficulties using the Volumatic inhaler.

Care of the Volumatic inhalation device

With normal daily use, the Volumatic inhalation device should be replaced after 12 months of use.

With normal daily use, the Volumatic inhalation device should be cleaned at least twice a week as follows:

  1. Carefully pull both halves of the Volumatic inhaler apart. Do not remove the valve (flap in the mouthpiece) of the Volumatic inhaler.
  2. Wash both halves of the Volumatic inhaler in warm water containing either a mild detergent or a sterilising solution such as that used to clean baby bottles. sterilising solution such as that used to clean baby bottles. You can use a soft toothbrush or bottle brush to remove any film that may have formed on the valve or inside the Volumatic inhaler. As long as the valve moves during inhalation and exhalation, the functionality of the Volumatic inhaler is not affected by deposits.
  3. Do not rinse the parts of the Volumatic inhalation device with clean water afterwards, as this leads to electrostatic charging. Allow the parts to dry at room temperature until they are completely dry. Do not rub the inner surfaces of the Volumatic inhalation device dry or clean with a cloth, as this can lead to an electrostatic charge and thus impair the functioning of the Volumatic inhalation device. Do not use heat sources such as radiators, ovens or hair dryers to accelerate the drying of the Volumatic inhalation device. The Volumatic inhalation device must not be autoclaved (special method for sterilising medical devices, for example).
  4. Reassemble the Volumatic inhalation device and store it in the outer carton to keep it clean and dry.

Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the inhalation device when you are finished using it. This will help to protect the environment.
