How to use
- Attach both halves of the Volumatic inhaler together. To do this, bring the notch on one half together with the insertion point on the other (marked with small arrows in the illustration) and press both halves firmly together.
- Remove the protective cap from the mouth tube of the dosing aerosol. Check the inside and outside of the mouth tube to ensure that it is clean and free of foreign objects. If the MDI is new or has not been used for a week or longer, hold the MDI with the mouth tube facing away from you and release one or two sprays into the air.
- Shake the MDI aerosol 4 or 5 times to ensure that any loose debris is removed and the contents of the MDI aerosol are evenly mixed.
- Insert the metered dose inhaler firmly into the opening of the Volumatic inhaler opposite the mouthpiece. Check the inside and outside of the mouthpiece of the Volumatic inhaler to ensure that it is clean.
- Hold the inhaler as shown in the illustration. Breathe out as far as possible.
- Then place the mouthpiece of the Volumatic inhaler in your mouth between your teeth and enclose it well with your lips, but do not bite on the mouthpiece. Your lips must not cover the side air inlets in the mouthpiece, otherwise the valve will not work.
- Now press down the metered dose inhaler with your fingers to release a spray into the Volumatic inhaler. Immediately afterwards, inhale deeply and evenly through your mouth (one slow and deep breath or 5 normal breaths) to ensure that the medicine reaches your lungs. You do not need to remove the Volumatic inhaler from your mouth while exhaling. You should hear the valve in the mouthpiece 'click' or rattle as you inhale and exhale. If you cannot hear the rattling sound, hold the Volumatic inhaler at an angle and try again. Do not spray all the sprays you have been prescribed into the Volumatic inhaler at once to inhale them. You must inhale each spray individually.
- Now hold your breath; take the Volumatic inhaler out of your mouth and remove your finger(s) from the metered dose inhaler. Continue to hold your breath for a few seconds or as long as you can.
- Breathe out.
- If the doctor has prescribed more than one spray per treatment, remove the metered dose inhaler from the Volumatic inhalation device by tilting the upper part of the metered dose inhaler with the active ingredient container forwards. Repeat steps 3 to 9, waiting about 30 seconds before inhaling the next spray.
- After use, remove the metered dose inhaler from the Volumatic inhaler and replace the protective cap on the mouth tube to protect it from dust and lint.
- Carefully pull both halves of the Volumatic inhaler apart. Do not remove the valve (flap in the mouthpiece) of the Volumatic inhaler.
- Wash both halves of the Volumatic inhaler in warm water containing either a mild detergent or a sterilising solution such as that used to clean baby bottles. sterilising solution such as that used to clean baby bottles. You can use a soft toothbrush or bottle brush to remove any film that may have formed on the valve or inside the Volumatic inhaler. As long as the valve moves during inhalation and exhalation, the functionality of the Volumatic inhaler is not affected by deposits.
- Do not rinse the parts of the Volumatic inhalation device with clean water afterwards, as this leads to electrostatic charging. Allow the parts to dry at room temperature until they are completely dry. Do not rub the inner surfaces of the Volumatic inhalation device dry or clean with a cloth, as this can lead to an electrostatic charge and thus impair the functioning of the Volumatic inhalation device. Do not use heat sources such as radiators, ovens or hair dryers to accelerate the drying of the Volumatic inhalation device. The Volumatic inhalation device must not be autoclaved (special method for sterilising medical devices, for example).
- Reassemble the Volumatic inhalation device and store it in the outer carton to keep it clean and dry.
