View package leaflet

Vivamel® medicinal honey is a single-origin natural product made from the nectar of sweet chestnut blossoms; thanks to its constituents, it is ideally suited for wound care throughout all stages of wound healing.

Produced in Europe, Vivamel® medicinal chestnut honey is naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, trace elements and amino acids (in particular vitamins B and C, calcium, magnesium, potassium, manganese and proline).

Cleans wounds quickly and effectively

  • Thanks to its high sugar content, Vivamel® medicinal chestnut honey promotes active deep cleansing of the wound. Accumulated fluid is mobilised, and swelling and oedema subside.

Effectively combats bacteria

  • Vivamel® medicinal chestnut honey combats bacteria not only through its osmotic effect; other factors and constituents also have bacteriostatic or bactericidal properties (including against MRSA and VRE) or prevent the formation of biofilm.

Reduces the inflammatory response

  • Wounds display swelling, pain and redness as signs of inflammation. Vivamel® medicinal chestnut honey contains antioxidants that can effectively alleviate inflammatory reactions.

Supports tissue regeneration

  • Vivamel® medicinal chestnut honey promotes a physiologically moist wound environment and supplies the healing wound directly with high concentrations of the minerals and amino acids necessary for tissue regeneration.

Eliminates unpleasant wound odour

  • Wound odour is caused by the bacterial breakdown of tissue proteins. When Vivamel® medicinal chestnut honey is applied, microorganisms preferentially utilise the sugar contained in Vivamel® and convert it into odourless compounds.

Areas of application

Thanks to its good fluidity, Vivamel® medical chestnut honey is particularly suitable for use on deep and fissured wounds and fistulas.

Vivamel® is recommended for use in conjunction with a suitable absorbent secondary dressing for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds at all stages of wound healing, such as:

  • deep wounds and pocket wounds,
  • abrasions, lacerations,
  • wounds resulting from injuries,
  • infected wounds,
  • burns,
  • chronic wounds,
  • diabetic ulcers,
  • ulcers,
  • abscesses and foreign body treatment.

Medical honey

Directions for use
  • First, rinse the wound with lukewarm running drinking water or isotonic saline solution (mild soap may also be used).
  • Apply medicinal honey from the tube to a sterile primary dressing and, if necessary, secure it with adhesive tape.
  • It is recommended that, at the start of treatment, the dressing or pad be changed every day; once the wound is no longer infected, changing it every second or third day is sufficient.
  • For deep and pocket wounds, apply honey directly from the tube to the wound and dress it appropriately.
