Vitalworld L-Carnosine 500 mg capsules are a dietary supplement containing the amino acid L-carnosine.
Carnosine, which was discovered and isolated in Russia as early as 1900, proved its worth as a dietary supplement for athletes around 1950, even though it only became better known in Western countries as a building block of effective sports nutrition at the beginning of the new millennium.
The natural, endogenous substance belongs to the so-called dipeptides, chemical compounds that are composed of two amino acids - in this case ß-alanine and L-histidine - and can be split back into two amino acids by hydrolysis. In humans, an increased concentration of carnosine is found both in the brain and in the muscles.
In food, carnosine is most strongly represented in meat. It is absorbed in the small intestine. In the muscles, carnosine protects against the consequences of hyperacidity caused by lactic acid during strenuous exercise. Carnosine also acts as a neurotransmitter in the body. When taking carnosine, it often makes sense to combine it with zinc.
