Suprasorb® P + PHMB: Is an antimicrobial polyurethane foam dressing with polyhexanide (PHMB). PHMB is a proven antiseptic that kills a broad spectrum of microorganisms. The dressing is sterile and non-adherent.
Suprasorb® P + PHMB non-adhesive antimicrobial foam dressing is a non-adherent sterile antimicrobial wound dressing consisting of a hydrophilic polyurethane foam to absorb exudate. The dressing is laminated with a printed, low friction, waterproof polyurethane film that forms a barrier against germs. The wound contact layer of the dressing has a clear perforated film that protects the wound bed from sticking to the dressing by preventing granulation tissue from entering the pores of the foam. This reduces trauma when the dressing is removed. The perforations in the wound contact layer allow exudate to be absorbed and prevent excess fluid from causing maceration of healthy skin.
Suprasorb® P + PHMB non-adhesive antimicrobial foam dressing enables the management of wound exudate and microbial contamination, reducing wound pain during wound healing. Suprasorb® P + PHMB non-adhesive antimicrobial foam dressing contains the antimicrobial substance polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB, polihexanide), which kills germs and inhibits their growth. Based on in vitro studies, PHMB released in the presence of wound exudate is an effective antimicrobial agent for up to seven (7) days against a broad spectrum of germs commonly found in bacterial colonisation and infection of wounds.

How to use
Preparation of the wound:
- If necessary, clean the wound surface with a non-toxic cleansing solution, e.g. a saline solution. Dry the surrounding area of the wound thoroughly before applying the dressing.
- If necessary, apply a wound dressing for deep wounds according to the instructions for use of the respective dressing.
Application of the wound dressing:
- Select the Suprasorb® P + PHMB non-adhesive antimicrobial foam dressing in a size slightly larger than the wound. If necessary, the dressing can be cut to the wound size (using sterile scissors).
- Centre the dressing on the wound, ensuring that the printed side is facing away from the wound, and carefully apply the dressing to the wound.
- Secure the dressing with a suitable tape, e.g. Curafix® H, to ensure that it does not slip. Ensure that the tape is only applied to the edges and does not cover the entire wound dressing, as this may impair its performance. If the wound dressing is applied under a compression bandage, no tape is required as the compression bandage fixes the wound dressing in situ.
- Dispose of any remaining dressing material due to the risk of contamination.
Change and remove the dressing:
- Suprasorb® P + PHMB non-adhesive antimicrobial foam dressing can remain on the wound for up to 7 days, depending on the patient's condition and the degree of exudation. Initially it may be necessary to change the dressing every 24 hours or whenever good wound care practice dictates.
- Carefully remove the dressing from the wound bed and dispose of according to local procedures and guidelines.
- If necessary, clean the wound with a suitable wound cleanser before applying a new dressing.
Notes: Suprasorb P + PHMB can be used as a secondary dressing for wounds at risk of infection and infected wounds as part of regular antimicrobial therapy. When dry, Suprasorb P + PHMB can be easily cut to the individual wound size
Ingredients
The material is soft and supple. The special surface texture of the wound contact layer of Suprasorb P + PHMB is gentle on vulnerable surfaces such as healing wounds. The semi-permeable PU carrier layer maintains a moist wound environment. It is impermeable to bacteria and water.
