Suprasorb® Liquacel is a sterile, hydroactive fibre dressing for the treatment of moderately to heavily exuding wounds. It promotes wound healing, creates an optimal wound environment and offers optimum comfort.
Suprasorb® Liquacel is a wound dressing with a soft, supple non-woven fabric consisting of a mixture of gel-forming cellulose ethyl sulphonate (CES fibres) and reinforcing cellulose fibres. On contact with wound exudate or blood, the absorbent dressing forms a gel that creates a moist wound environment. This can support autolytic debridement and the healing process. The gel formation allows debris and bacteria in the wound exudate to be retained in the fibrous dressing and removed when the dressing is changed. When dry, the Suprasorb® Liquacel wound dressing can be easily cut to the size of the wound. The structure of the dressing remains intact even when wet with gelled fibres. The high vertical exudate absorption in the fibre dressing protects the wound environment and the wound edge1 and thus supports the healing process. The product is intended for single use only.
Suprasorb Liquacel reduces the risk of maceration by vertically absorbing and transferring exudate to the secondary dressing. Suprasorb Liquacel gels on contact with the exudate to form a clear gel which includes wound exudate, debris and bacteria.
It has been shown that Suprasorb Liquacel is easy to cut when dry and then easy to place or tamponade. The ease of handling is also evident during removal: Suprasorb Liquacel can be removed easily and in one piece when wet. This minimises the risk of dressing residue remaining in the wound.
Areas of application
For the treatment of acute and chronic wounds, if they are slightly to heavily exuding, superficial or deep.
Indications:
- Ulcus cruris
- Decubitus ulcers
- Diabetic ulcers
- 2nd degree burns
- Lacerations, cuts and abrasions
- Traumatic wounds and wounds that tend to bleed, e.g. after surgical or mechanical debridement Split skin removal sites
Wound healing phases:
- Exudation phase
- Granulation phase
Properties
- Supports the protection of the wound edge and surrounding skin
- Effective exudate management supports the healing process
- Uncomplicated application when moist, as it can be removed in one piece
- Vertical exudate absorption and transfer to the secondary dressing
1 The above properties refer to in vitro data available to date.
Dosage form
Hydroactive fibre dressing sterile
How to use
Prepare the wound:
- Clean the wound carefully. The skin surrounding the wound should be clean and dry.
Apply the dressing:
- The size of the dressing should be adapted to the wound area. The product should be cut to size outside the wound area.
- Apply the dressing to the moist wound and allow it to overlap by about 1 cm at the wound edges. If there is a small amount of exudate, moisten the dressing with physiological saline solution (0.9 %).
- Use tamponades for wound cavities. Loosely tamponade wounds and leave an overlap of approx. 2.5 cm at the wound edges.
- Apply a suitable moisture-retaining secondary dressing to hold the product in place.
Renew the dressing:
- The dressing should be changed when medically indicated (e.g. when the dressing has reached its absorption capacity or a change is necessary according to wound care practice). The interval between dressing changes must not exceed 7 days. The product can be removed e.g. with sterile tweezers. If the dressing adheres to less exuding wounds, it should be moistened with physiological saline solution (0.9 %) before changing the dressing so that the healing process is not disturbed. Any gel residue in the wound should be removed during wound cleansing. Wound cavities in particular should be rinsed well. Treatment should be discontinued after 30 days. Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
