When taking vitamin B3 in the form of niacin or nicotinic acid, a so-called "flush" (reddening of the skin, possibly with tingling and a feeling of warmth) can occur at higher doses. Although harmless and usually over within 15 - 30 minutes, it is occasionally unpleasant. This is effectively prevented by the administration as inositol hexanicotinate/inositol nicotinate, so that even higher doses can be taken comfortably.
