Only fill the hot water bottle 2/3 full with water and then squeeze out the excess air. Never lean against a hot water bottle, lie on it, press on it or sit on it. Always use a hot water bottle cover or wrap the hot water bottle in a towel. Hot water bottle smells of rubber. After the first filling, the rubber odour becomes slightly stronger, but disappears after a short time!
