The folic acid supply via the normal diet is often insufficient. In addition, folic acid has very unstable properties, which is why adults, especially those with an increased requirement - such as pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers - are usually recommended to take a supplement.

Adequate folic acid intake during pregnancy and for breastfeeding mothers is particularly important as it supports numerous important functions.
