Riopan® 800 mg chewable tablets are an over-the-counter medicine containing the active ingredient: gastric diacetate. This binds excess stomach acid and is used to treat heartburn and acid regurgitation.

Excessive acid binding, which would lead to increased acid secretion into the stomach, is avoided. The natural digestive function is maintained and the bile acids that flow back into the stomach in some cases are bound. The effect of Riopan usually lasts for several hours. Riopan is used for heartburn and acid regurgitation.

Children and adolescents under the age of 18 may only take Riopan if prescribed by a doctor. If you do not feel better or even worse after 14 days, consult your doctor.

Riopan® - Quick help for heartburn

Riopan® is an antacid based on the active ingredient magaldrate with a molecular layered lattice structure that ensures that excess stomach acid is bound and buffered in the therapeutic range. This special structure also means that only the excess acid is neutralised and unused active ingredient remains as an active ingredient depot, so that several acid attacks can be combated with a single intake.

Riopan® activates the body's own protective mechanisms as it stimulates the production of mucus, allowing the stomach lining to regenerate. It also binds bile acids, lysolecithin and pepsin, thus reducing the aggressiveness of gastric juice.

How to use

• The recommended dose is: For mild stomach complaints (e.g. heartburn, acid regurgitation), take 1 chewable tablet as required. The symptoms usually occur after eating or at night (when lying down), so the usual dose is 1 chewable tablet one hour after the main meals or before going to bed (= 4 times a day). If acute symptoms occur between doses, you can increase the dose to up to 8 doses per day. You should not take more than 8 chewable tablets a day (equivalent to 6400 mg magaldrate). In some cases, taking one dose may provide relief from symptoms. Stop taking the tablets as soon as you are free of symptoms.
• Use in children and adolescents: There is insufficient information available for children under 12 years of age, so they should not take Riopan. In adolescents aged 12 to 18 years, Riopan should only be used on the express prescription of a doctor.
• Route of administration: Oral use. You can suck the chewable tablets or chew them well.
• Duration of use: You can stop taking Riopan when you are free of symptoms. Riopan must not be taken for more than 14 consecutive days. Consult your doctor if your symptoms do not subside within this period, last longer than 14 days or get worse, or if additional symptoms occur. He or she will arrange for a diagnostic investigation to rule out other illnesses.
