Product information "Raab® Vitalfood Astaxanthin Capsules"

Raab® Vitalfood Astaxanthin Capsules contain plant extract from Haematococcus pluvialis. The vitamin E they contain protects cells from oxidative stress.

Astaxanthin-rich oleoresin from algae

  • Produced naturally by the microscopic Haematococcus pluvialis algae
  • Contains 4 mg of astaxanthin (carotenoid) per daily dose
  • Just 1 capsule a day

What is astaxanthin and who produces it?

Astaxanthin is a reddish-purple molecule and belongs to the group of carotenoids, which are primarily known for their colouring properties – ranging from yellow to red. Within the carotenoid family, astaxanthin belongs to the xanthophyll subgroup, whilst carotenes, such as the well-known beta-carotene, form a different subgroup. Lutein and zeaxanthin are also carotenoids. Carotenoids are a type of secondary plant compound. They are long molecules with many double bonds. These double bonds are responsible for the vivid colour of these molecules.

The name astaxanthin is derived from the Greek words ‘astakós’, meaning ‘lobster’, and ‘xanthós’, meaning ‘yellowish’. This name arose because marine animals such as crabs and prawns acquire their characteristic red colour by consuming algae containing astaxanthin.

Astaxanthin is produced by the single-celled green alga Haematococcus pluvialis, also known as ‘blood rain alga’. When it proliferates extensively, this alga can give bodies of water a blood-red colour.

Why choose Raab Vitalfood’s astaxanthin capsules?

Raab astaxanthin capsules provide 4 mg of astaxanthin per capsule. The astaxanthin-rich oleoresin in the capsules is derived from the specific algae Haematococcus pluvialis, which is known for its high astaxanthin concentration. Oleoresins are concentrated, oily extracts obtained through specialised extraction processes. To produce the oleoresin, the algae are not harvested directly from the sea, but are cultivated under controlled, physiological conditions in specialised tanks.
