The garden mustard (Eruca vesicaria subsp. sativa, synm. Eruca sativa) is the classic rocket. The plant is not only cultivated as a salad, but also to a lesser extent for extracting oil from the seeds. This is where the name rocket comes from. Various plant species from the cruciferous family are also known as rocket (also rocket, arugula). Rocket is mainly cultivated as a salad plant. In German-speaking countries, however, it was originally known as rocket. The garden mustard was already eaten in the Mediterranean region in Roman times and was even considered an aphrodisiac.
