Product information "Prontosan® wound gel"
Prontosan® Wound Gel is a hydrogel for cleansing, moisturising and decontaminating acute, chronic and infected skin wounds and burns (grade 1+2), flowable consistency for wound cavities.
Properties
- Dissolves wound coatings (necrosis, fibrin, biofilm)
- Prevents the formation of wound coatings
- Suitable for wound cavities due to good flow behaviour
- Low-pain application
- Creation of an environment that promotes healing
- For repeated and long-term use
- Shelf life up to 8 weeks after opening
Chronic skin wounds are often covered with scabs, necrotic tissue and/or a biofilm. These coatings are difficult to remove and lead to delayed wound healing, making proper wound cleansing extremely important. The use of Prontosan® Wound Gel enables long-term cleaning and decontamination of the wound between dressing changes. As acute wounds are generally contaminated with debris and microorganisms, they also require thorough cleaning. These contaminants can impede the normal wound healing process and lead to complications such as infection. For acute traumatic wounds that require suturing, Prontosan® Wound Gel is applied after surgical treatment and suturing. The unique combination of ingredients (i.e. the antimicrobial substance polihexanide and the surfactant betaine) makes Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution ideal for preventing the formation of biofilm.

How to use
- For optimum results, Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution should be used to clean the wound and the surrounding skin area before applying Prontosan® Wound Gel.
- Prontosan® Wound Gel should be applied generously to the wound bed. Cavities and pockets should be filled with Prontosan® Wound Gel. Wound dressings, gauze cuttings, compresses or other absorbent materials can be moistened with Prontosan® Wound Gel before applying the dressing.
Prontosan® Wound Gel can be left on the wound until the next dressing change.
- Depending on the frequency of dressing changes, different amounts of Prontosan® Wound Gel are applied. The wound surface should be kept moist continuously to ensure adequate cleansing and disinfection. Deposits are gently loosened and removed with the next dressing change. Application should be frequent enough so that all debris and necrotic residues can be easily removed and the wound bed is optimally prepared.
