Product information "PolyMem® non-adherent dressing 10 x 10 cm"

Beipackzettel ansehen

PolyMem® non-adherent dressings are multifunctional polymer wound dressings suitable for all stages of the wound healing process. They offer a range of benefits that can promote healing and improve patient comfort.

The multifunctional 4-in-1 multi-component dressings have an impressive composition and are suitable for a wide variety of wounds in their different configurations. All PolyMem® products are based on the same composition of components.

Advantages

  • Cleans, fills, absorbs and moisturises the wound at the same time
  • Does not adhere to the wound bed and reduces wound pain during dressing changes
  • Reduces the risk of infection and the detachment of newly formed granulation tissue
  • Minimises the need to clean the wound bed when changing the dressing and thus prevents additional pain when cleaning the wound
  • Facilitates effective autolytic debridement and reduces the need for more painful debridement options
  • Further reduces wound pain by blocking the actions of certain pain-perceiving nerve endings
  • Actively supports wound healing
  • Saves time by simplifying dressing changes

The mode of action

Faster wound healing and less pain thanks to monotherapeutic multi-component dressing: PolyMem® is a unique, multifunctional dressing that has been specially developed to reduce overall wound pain and actively support the healing process. All PolyMem® dressings effectively cleanse, moisturise, fill and absorb wounds throughout the healing process.

PolyMem® cleans

  • The wound is continuously cleansed. This minimises the need for additional cleaning during dressing changes.
  • The wound cleansing agent/surfactant is activated by moisture1. Supports autolytic debridement by reducing interfacial tension between healthy and dead tissue.
  • Powerful absorbent agents help to draw dead tissue from the wound into the dressing.

PolyMem® moisturises

  • The incorporated hygroscopic glycerine helps to create and maintain a moist wound environment.
  • The glycerine - together with the other components - ensures that the dressing does not stick to the wound.
  • The glycerine - together with the other ingredients - creates a "water flow" from the deep tissue layers into the area of the wound. This water flow transports healing agents, including alimentary and growth-promoting factors, from the deep tissue layers to the wound and is important for the wound healing process2.
  • The glycerin also helps to reduce odour and hypergranulation3.

PolyMem® fills

  • PolyMem® dressings are designed to maximise comfort and ensure that both simple and complex wounds can be treated properly. They are available in ideal configurations that adapt naturally to superficial (less than 0.5cm), cavitary, tunnelled and undermined wounds.

PolyMem® absorbs

  • Wound fluid contains natural growth factors and nutrients. Superabsorbents contained in the dressing have a high affinity for the aqueous part of the wound fluid and attract it to the wound. This leads to a concentration of the larger components in the wound4.
  • Distinct absorption properties help to draw dead tissue into the dressing. This means it can be easily disposed of later together with the dressing.

The special feature

Less pain! PolyMem® changes the actions of certain pain-sensing nerve endings (nociceptors) and thus reduces wound pain.

The most common cause of pain in chronic wounds is damage to the tissue, resulting in nociceptive pain or inflammatory pain. Another cause of wound pain is damage to the nerves. Neuropathic pain is often felt as a result of chronic, unrelieved nociceptive pain.

PolyMem®-formulated dressings help to block the actions of some of these nociceptors, which carry some of the pain messages following tissue-damaging injuries and inflammation.

Areas of application

PolyMem® is suitable for acute and chronic wounds. For example for

  • Pressure ulcers
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Skin grafts
  • Surgical wounds
  • Dermatological diseases (e.g. epidermolysis bullosa)
  • 1st and 2nd degree burns
  • Radiotherapy-induced skin damage
  • Tracheotomies
  • Proliferating wounds
  • Stump injuries
  • Exposed tendons
  • Herpes zoster
  • Catheter or probe entry sites or acute skin injuries
