How it works 

Faster wound healing and less pain thanks to a monotherapeutic multi-component dressing: PolyMem® is a unique, multifunctional dressing specifically designed to reduce overall wound pain whilst actively supporting the healing process. All PolyMem® dressings effectively cleanse, moisturise, fill and absorb wounds throughout the entire healing process. 

PolyMem® cleans 

• The wound is continuously cleansed. This minimises the need for additional cleansing during dressing changes. 
• The wound cleanser/surfactant is activated by moisture¹. It supports autolytic debridement by reducing the interfacial tension between healthy and necrotic tissue. 
• Highly effective absorbent agents help draw necrotic tissue from the wound into the dressing. 

PolyMem® moisturises 

• The incorporated hygroscopic glycerine helps to create and maintain a moist wound environment. 
• The glycerine – together with the other components – ensures that the dressing does not stick to the wound. 
• The glycerine – together with the other components – creates a ‘flow of water’ from the deep tissue layers into the wound area. This flow of water transports healing active substances, including nutritional and growth-promoting factors, from the deep tissue layers to the wound and is important for the^{wound healing process2}. 
• Glycerine also helps to^reduce odour formation and hypergranulation³. 

PolyMem® fills 

• PolyMem® dressings are designed for maximum comfort and ensure that both simple and complex wounds can be treated professionally. They are available in ideal configurations that adapt naturally to superficial (less than 0.5 cm), cavitary, tunnel-shaped and undermined wounds. 

PolyMem® absorbs 

• Wound exudate contains natural growth factors and nutrients. Superabsorbents contained within the dressing have a high affinity for the aqueous component of the wound exudate and draw it towards the wound. This leads to a concentration of the larger components within the^wound⁴. 
• Strong absorbent properties help to draw necrotic tissue into the dressing. This allows it to be easily disposed of later, together with the dressing. 

The special feature 

Less pain! PolyMem® alters the activity of certain pain-sensing nerve endings (nociceptors), thereby reducing wound pain. 

The most common cause of pain in chronic wounds is tissue damage, resulting in nociceptive pain or inflammatory pain. Another cause of wound pain is nerve damage. So-called neuropathic pain is often experienced as a consequence of chronic, unrelieved nociceptive pain. 

PolyMem®-formulated dressings help to block the activity of some of these nociceptors, which transmit some of the pain signals following tissue-damaging injuries and inflammation.
