Astragalus and ginseng: Good for vitality

• Astragalus, also known as the "Mongolian tragacanth", originally comes from northern China and Mongolia, where it is one of the best-known and most important plants. Astragalus is still used today in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Astragalus has a large number of important ingredients. These include polysaccharides, triterpene saponins such as astragalosides I to VII, isoflavonoids, amino acids, fatty acids and minerals.
• Panax ginseng, also known as Korean or true ginseng, is another plant that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2000 years. In the 17th century, ginseng found its way to Europe through Dutch sailors and is also very well known in this country.
