What are Pharma Nord D-Pearls 75 µg?
- Pharma Nord’s D-Pearls are made from soft gelatine, and each capsule contains 3000 IU (75 µg) of vitamin D3. To improve absorption in the digestive system, the vitamin D in the D-Pearls is dissolved in cold-pressed olive oil, as this vitamin is fat-soluble. Thanks to their small size, Pharma Nord’s D-Pearls are easy to swallow or can be chewed. Studies have shown a high rate of absorption in the body.
- Pharma Nord D-Pearls containing vitamin D3 were tested by researchers at the University of Oslo, who administered various doses of vitamin D in the form of D-Pearls and inactive placebo capsules to athletes. The trial showed that D-Pearls were well absorbed by the participants at both high and low doses, whilst the athletes who received the placebo had no change in their blood vitamin D levels.
What is vitamin D?
- Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. This means that the vitamin requires fat to be absorbed in the gut. Like other vitamins, vitamin D is essential. There are various types of vitamin D, but the two most important forms are D2 (ergocalciferol) and D3 (cholecalciferol). D3 is the form of the vitamin that is synthesised in the skin when we are exposed to sufficient sunlight. Vitamin D from sunlight is an effective source of vitamin D, but it is only produced when there is strong sunlight. In large parts of Europe, this only happens in summer, so we can only produce sufficient vitamin D at that time of year.
- Vitamin D2 is only available through diet. It is produced by certain fungi and plants when exposed to ultraviolet light. Both vitamin D2 and vitamin D3 require subsequent activation in the liver and kidneys to become biologically active. Scientists used to believe that both forms of vitamin D were equally effective in the body. However, depending on the measurement method used, vitamin D3 is 56–87 per cent more effective than vitamin D2 at raising vitamin D levels in the blood. Furthermore, D3 is stored more than three times as effectively in adipose tissue as D2. *

For adults and adolescents aged 12 and over, take 1 capsule every other day with any meal and plenty of liquid. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake.
