What is BioActive NAD+ Booster?
BioActive NAD+ Booster consists of white tablets, each containing 250 mg niacin in the form of nicotinamide and nicotinic acid. The recommended dosage for BioActive NAD+ Booster is two to three tablets a day, which should be taken throughout the day. The formulation of the product was developed by Pharma Nord and is based on scientific research. The active ingredients in the tablets are released slowly, which enables optimum absorption and utilisation in the body.
Why a booster?
- In 2020, scientists at the University of Helsinki published the results of a clinical study that showed that a combination of nicotinamide and nicotinic acid in a special slow-release tablet can increase blood NAD+ levels eightfold within a few months.
- This research forms the basis for the BioActive NAD+ Booster. A direct supply of NAD+ is therefore not necessary, as the intake of NAD+ or NADH in the blood hardly benefits the cells. Instead, the body's cells have to produce NAD+ themselves. An NAD booster is therefore preferable, as it supplies the precursors that the cells can use for their own production.
Differences between niacin, NAD+ and NADH
There are a number of different substances that serve as precursors of NAD in the body and are converted via various biological processes. Examples of these precursors are nicotinic acid, nicotinamide, nicotinamide riboside (NR) and nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN). NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme that is central to metabolism. NAD, which is found in all living cells, is called a dinucleotide because it consists of two nucleotides linked by their phosphate groups. One nucleotide contains an adenine nucleobase, the other nicotinamide.
NAD occurs in the body in two forms: NAD⁺ as an oxidised form and NADH as a reduced form. NAD is classified as a coenzyme, i.e. a substance that enables biochemical reactions in the body.
NAD in its oxidised and reduced form plays an important role as the "power plants" of the cells (the mitochondria) convert calories from food into energy. The citrate cycle and the electron transport chain are key processes in the conversion of energy in the cells. These processes produce the molecule ATP, which serves as the body's "energy currency" for energy-intensive processes.
Niacin is converted to NAD
Niacin (in the form of nicotinamide and nicotinic acid) belongs to the group of B vitamins that are converted to NAD in the body. NAD is produced in the body via various synthesis pathways, for example from the amino acid tryptophan (de novo synthesis) or from niacin (Preiss-Handler synthesis). The body's natural NAD production decreases with age as these signalling pathways become less efficient.
Slow-release formulation
Since niacin, like the other B vitamins, is water-soluble, it can be absorbed relatively quickly from the intestine into the blood. However, water-soluble nutrients can be lost through diuretics such as caffeine, alcohol and drugs, as these excrete water from the body. Niacin in a slow-release formulation allows the compounds to be absorbed slowly into the bloodstream. This ensures a stable release and prevents large losses.
Niacin:
- Contributes to the normal function of the nervous system
- Contributes to normal energy metabolism
- Contributes to normal psychological function
- Contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and mucous membranes
- Helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue
