- Chromium is a vital mineral and trace element that plays an important role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fatty substances and proteins. Chromium is also important for processes in the human body, including those that ensure normal blood sugar levels. Synthetic chromium, i.e. inorganically bound, normally has a low bioavailability.
- Chromium comes in several forms: many people associate chromium exclusively with chrome-plated fittings in the bathroom or kitchen. These forms of hexavalent chromium should not be confused with trivalent chromium. This is required for biochemical processes in the human body. Humans need it in the body in its so-called trivalent form. Trivalent chromium means that it is able to form three chemical bonds with other atoms.
- Lactic acid binder chromium: Trivalent or trivalent chromium also has the property of binding very strongly to lactic acid (lactate).
