C-Reactive Protein
C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute-phase protein that is mainly produced by the liver and whose concentration increases as a result of injury, infection and inflammation. Although it is not a specific marker for a particular disease, CRP is currently used as a generic diagnostic indicator for infection and inflammation and to monitor patient response to therapy and post-operative course. In bacterial infections, CRP levels in the blood are high, whereas in viral infections they are slightly elevated. The value of the C-reactive protein can therefore be a useful tool for determining the cause of an inflammatory condition. Monitoring CRP levels over time helps to assess therapeutic efficacy and a patient's healing process. CRP levels in the blood peak between 24 and 48 hours after the onset of the first symptoms of infection/inflammation and then decline if there are no complications. The C-REACTIVE PROTEIN TEST offers a semi-quantitative determination of CRP levels in the blood to support diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring.
Principle of the test
The C-REACTIVE PROTEIN TEST is a rapid immunochromatographic test for the semi-quantitative detection of C-reactive protein in human blood samples thanks to special gold-conjugated monoclonal antibodies contained in the test strip.
Technical data
C-REACTIVE PROTEIN TEST is a rapid immunochromatographic test for the semi-quantitative detection of C-reactive protein in whole blood samples.
- Specificity 96.0%
- Sensitivity 98.7%
- Accuracy 97.6%
Dosage form
Self test kit consisting of 1 test cassette, 1 dropper bottle with the diluent, 2 sterile lancets, 1 pipette for blood collection, 1 antiseptic cleaning gauze, instructions for use.
How to use
- Take a blood sample using the sterile lancet provided;
- Collect the sample marked by the black line using the capillary pipette provided;
- Pour the collected sample into the previously opened dropper bottle with the buffer and screw it tight again;
- Pour 3 drops of the liquid obtained into the well (S) indicated on the cassette and wait 5 minutes to read the result.
Interpretation of the results:
- Negative (< 10 mg/L): The CRP concentration is below 10 mg/L and suggests that there is no infection or inflammation.
- Positive (10-40 mg/L): These values are generally associated with a viral infection or the onset of a bacterial infection. It is recommended to see your doctor for further information.
- Positive (40-80 mg/L): This result may be associated with a viral or bacterial infection or physical trauma. It is recommended to consult your doctor for further information.
- Positive (> 80 mg/L): This result may be associated with a bacterial infection or severe inflammation. It is recommended to consult your doctor for further information.
