Product information "Ovufem® Sachets"
Ovufem® is a food for special medical purposes (balanced diet) for dietary management of PCOS and/or fertility problems. It contains a special combination of myo-inositol, folic acid and vitamin D.
It contains a special combination of myo-inositol, folic acid and vitamin D – thereby ensuring a targeted supply of these nutrients for women with PCOS and/or fertility problems.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal disorders in women wishing to conceive; furthermore, approximately 7–9 per cent of couples trying to conceive are affected by fertility problems.
Taking Ovufem daily for 6 months can help the majority of infertile women with PCOS to:
- Restore normal ovulation
- Restore a regular menstrual cycle
- To increase progesterone secretion during the luteal phase
Taking Ovufem daily for 3 months can significantly improve IVF protocols for PCOS patients by:
- Improved fertility rates
- Higher embryo quality
Women with adequate vitamin D levels have, during the course of IVF treatment:
- A higher chance of obtaining high-quality embryos
- A higher chance of embryo transfer at the blastocyst stage
- Higher clinical pregnancy rate
What positive effects can myo-inositol, folic acid and vitamin D have on PCOS and/or fertility problems?
- Women with PCOS often have a lower chance of becoming pregnant due to infrequent ovulation, accompanied by infrequent or completely absent periods.
- Supplementation with myo-inositol, folic acid and vitamin D may also be beneficial in promoting regular ovulation and increasing the likelihood of successful conception and implantation.
Active ingredient
Myo-inositol
- As a component of cell membrane phospholipids, myo-inositol plays an important biochemical role in signal transduction during various hormonal processes, such as the regulation of insulin and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone). It has positive effects on insulin resistance and fat and glucose metabolism, as well as reducing androgen levels. A growing number of physiological and clinical studies suggest that the substance may be of particular interest in certain insulin-dependent conditions such as PCOS, metabolic syndrome or gestational diabetes, or as an adjunctive treatment during IVF cycles to improve egg and sperm quality1.
- Myo-inositol is produced in the body from D-glucose, and is also found as a natural component in many animal and plant tissues; it can therefore also be obtained through the diet.
- For women with PCOS and/or who are trying to conceive, myo-inositol supplementation may be beneficial, as a study has shown that a 6-month course of 4 g of myo-inositol and 400 μg of folic acid daily can help restore normal ovulation in women with PCOS.
Folic acid
- Women with PCOS who wish to become pregnant should, like any woman planning to conceive, pay particular attention to ensuring an adequate intake of folic acid. Folic acid is an essential B-complex vitamin (vitamin B9).
- Although it is found in abundance in green leafy vegetables, amongst other foods, it is easily destroyed due to its high sensitivity to light and heat. As a result, an optimal intake is often not achieved.
- As a general rule, a supplementary dose of 400 micrograms per day is recommended for those planning to conceive.
Vitamin D
- Compared with the general population, women with PCOS and/or fertility problems are more likely to have a vitamin D deficiency. Recent studies highlight the importance of an adequate intake of this vital vitamin for female fertility, in order to increase the likelihood of successful conception and implantation, for example during in vitro fertilisation (IVF).
