The Orthovisc® 15 mg/ml pre-filled syringe is a medical device indicated for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee joint (gonarthrosis), the hip joint (coxarthrosis), the ankle joint (talocrural arthrosis) and the facet joints (facet joint osteoarthritis).
Orthovisc® is a highly effective hyaluronic acid preparation for intra-articular injection, which has been specially developed for the treatment of degenerative and traumatic joint changes. It provides effective pain relief and improves mobility in patients with osteoarthritis.
- Optimal molecular weight: ORTHOVISC® has a molecular weight of 1.80 × 10⁶ whilst maintaining high rheological viscosity. Granulomatous inflammation, which appears to be induced by very high-molecular-weight preparations due to their low solubility, can be virtually ruled out.
- Optimal viscosity: ORTHOVISC® maintains its viscosity optimally under load. Other preparations, by contrast, rapidly lose their viscoelastic properties under load and begin to take on a liquid-like character. ORTHOVISC® significantly improves the viscoelasticity of the synovial fluid. Lubricating and shock-absorbing properties are restored.
- Safe and effective: Clinical studies confirm that treatment with ORTHOVISC® alleviates symptoms and functional impairments associated with osteoarthritis over a period of at least six months.
Indications for ORTHOVISC®
Knee joint:
- Osteoarthritis of the knee joint (gonarthrosis), regardless of the severity of the condition.
- Post-traumatic or degenerative changes in the knee joint.
Hip joint:
- Osteoarthritis of the hip joint (coxarthrosis), particularly in advanced stages.
- Treatment of pain and restricted mobility caused by degenerative joint disease in the hip joint.
Ankle joint:
- Osteoarthritis of the ankle joint (talocrural osteoarthritis).
- Pain relief and improved function in patients with degenerative changes in the ankle joint.
Vertebral joints:
- Osteoarthritis of the facet joints.
- Treatment of back and neck pain caused by degenerative changes in the facet joints.
