Optiderm® fat cream, 50 G

Optiderm® Ointment is an over-the-counter medicine used to help treat skin conditions characterised by itching and dry skin.

Optiderm Ointment contains two active ingredients: urea and polidocanol. Urea is a substance that is also found in the skin as a component of its natural moisturising factors. 

• Urea increases the water-binding capacity of the stratum corneum; in addition, this substance is said to have, amongst other things, antibacterial, anti-itching and mild anaesthetic effects. Urea is non-allergenic. 
• Polidocanol, a topical anaesthetic, relieves pain and itching. Polidocanol is well tolerated when applied topically. 

Thanks to the combination of these two active ingredients, Optiderm Ointment has significant pain-relieving and itch-relieving properties.

It also significantly increases the skin’s moisture content. 

In addition, Optiderm Ointment significantly replenishes the skin’s natural oils, thereby reducing skin roughness. If the skin does not require significant oil replenishment, Optiderm Cream is available. 

Optiderm Ointment is used:

• to regulate moisture levels in the stratum corneum 
• to moisturise and relieve itching as a supportive treatment for skin conditions involving very dry and/or itchy skin, such as atopic eczema (neurodermatitis), or in cases of skin damage caused by dehydration, e.g. due to washing-up liquid and detergents (exsiccation eczema) 
• for the ongoing and follow-up treatment of the aforementioned skin conditions.

Optiderm Ointment must not be used:

• if you are allergic to urea, polidocanol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6. 
• if your skin is red and flaky all over your body (erythroderma) 
• if your skin is inflamed, weeping and you have a skin infection.

Directions for use

• Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, apply Optiderm Ointment twice daily in an even, thin layer to the skin.
• Method of use: For use on the skin.
• Duration of use: The duration of treatment depends on the improvement seen and is generally 3 weeks. If dry skin persists, you may continue treatment for a longer period after consulting a doctor.

Ingredients

• The active ingredients are urea and polidocanol. 100 g of cream contain 5 g of urea and 3 g of polidocanol. 
• The other ingredients are: Medium-chain triglycerides, heavy paraffin, isopropyl palmitate, cetyl alcohol, polyoxyethylene-21-stearyl ether, polyoxyethylene-2-stearyl ether, 1,3-butylene glycol, sodium lactate solution, lactic acid, disodium edetate, purified water.
