- As building blocks of joint metabolism, glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) supply molecules for the regeneration of lubricants in the synovial fluid and thus promote the nutrition of the joint cartilage. On the one hand there are small glucosamine molecules that form the scaffolding and on the other high-molecular GAGs (such as chondroitin), which in turn are converted into usable building blocks and also release functional substances.
- The ratio of large to small molecules in the formulation, as contained in Canidex® (ratio of high-molecular to low-molecular GAGs = 3:1), is also important for this balanced supply of GAGs. Another structural building block to consider is sulphur, which is used here in an organic and biologically available form.
- Omega fatty acids play an important role in supporting joint metabolism, which is why they have become routine in joint-specific feeds. Canidex® also contains the biologically best ratio of omega fatty acids in the ratio omega 3 to omega 6 = 4:1.
- An interesting function also results from the breakdown of large GAG molecules (e.g. chondroitin): so-called "cytokines" are released, whose task is intercellular communication during the synthesis processes. Plants and their extracts, such as willow bark, devil's claw, ginger, frankincense and wintergreen oil, round off this formulation.
- Both the presence of all the necessary nutrients and the integrity of the joint capsule are prerequisites for rapid regeneration.
