Novalac AR Digest + powder is a food for special medical purposes (balanced diet). Formula for infants and young children from 0 to 36 months, for the dietary management of regurgitation.

Novalac AR Digest + is a food for special medical purposes for the dietary management of regurgitation in infants. Novalac AR Digest + is a thickened formula specially formulated to meet the nutritional needs of infants with regurgitation and gastro-oesophageal reflux symptoms. Novalac AR Digest + contains a unique innovative blend of the thickening agent PAX® Complex, which combines the properties of starch and fibre to minimise regurgitation.

Frequent spitting up (regurgitation) is a common problem in babies in the first year of life, caused by the involuntary reflux of breast milk or food from the stomach into the oesophagus and from there into the mouth. It usually occurs immediately or shortly after a meal (when burping), less frequently during sleep.

Novalac AR Digest + contains an innovative three-component thickening agent that enables optimal thickening of food in the stomach, is a source of dietary fibre and, due to its increased viscosity at a neutral pH value, has a better gelling capacity compared to other conventional thickening agents. The effect of the three-component thickener is to reduce spitting up in infants and regulate digestion, leading to normal weight gain.

Novalac AR Digest + covers all the nutritional needs of an infant up to 6 months of age and can be used as a sole food. After the age of 6 months, Novalac AR Digest + can be used as part of a varied diet.

Directions for use

One level measuring spoon, which is enclosed, contains 4.3 g Novalac AR Digest +. Dissolve one measuring spoon in 30 ml of water. In consultation with your paediatrician or pharmacist, the quantity and number of all daily meals should be adapted to your baby's needs. Unless your paediatrician recommends otherwise, follow the recommendations in the table.

Instructions for use:

1. Wash hands thoroughly before each preparation.
2. Clean the baby bottle and cap with teat and sterilise in boiling water for at least 5 minutes.
3. Bring fresh water for preparing the meal to the boil in a covered pan and simmer for at least 5 minutes.
4. Allow the water to cool to 40 °C and pour into the baby bottle.
5. Pour the specified number of scoops into the baby bottle using the measuring spoon provided.
6. Close the baby bottle and shake vigorously until the powder is completely dissolved. Allow the prepared meal to cool to 37 °C (lukewarm) or check it on the inside of your wrist until you feel it is neither warm nor cold.

Additional tip for preparing formula milk

• It is recommended to shake the bottle vigorously immediately after adding the powder to the water until the powder is completely dissolved. It is also advisable to use a bottle that is large enough so that the contents can be shaken thoroughly. Parents can prepare the first half and then the second half as required: First add half the amount of powder to the total amount of well-heated water and shake the bottle, then add the remaining powder, close the bottle and shake again. Speed in preparation is important so that you do not wait and leave the prepared formula. This can help to avoid the formation of lumps and hardening.
• Due to the specific composition, you may need to shake more and for longer to dissolve the milk powder in the bottle. Furthermore, the milk powder of Novalac AR Digest + may contain some small dark particles of vegetable origin (rose hip flour) and/or white aggregates of dietary fibre, but this has no consequences.

Important notes

• Breastfeeding is the best nutrition for your baby. Please use Novalac AR Digest + only under medical supervision for infants with symptoms for which this formula is intended. The product should not be used as the sole source of nutrition after the age of 6 months. Special care should be taken in the case of cow's milk protein allergy, premature babies, low birth weight babies or babies with a weakened immune system. Improper preparation or storage may pose a health risk. Novalac AR Digest + is not suitable for parenteral use. Novalac AR Digest + is not suitable for tube feeding.
• Prepare each meal fresh. Store in a dry, cool place away from light. The product can be used at least until the expiry date (printed on the bottom of the can). The contents of the tin must be used within three weeks of first opening. Close the can tightly after each use. Do not reuse the leftover food, but dispose of it.
