The non-sterile cotton bud is designed for applying liquids and for cleaning. If the cotton buds are to be used for wound treatment, they must be sterilised using a validated method prior to use.
The cotton bud (cotton tip: 4–5 mm) is used for applying liquids and ointments, for cleaning and for taking swab samples. If it is to be used on open wounds, it must be sterilised prior to use using a validated method (moist heat in accordance with DIN EN ISO 17665, irradiation in accordance with DIN EN ISO 11137 or ethylene oxide in accordance with DIN EN ISO 11135). The cotton bud has a 15 cm long cotton tip.
