Nicorette® 4 mg chewing gum Icemint belongs to a group of medicines used for smoking cessation. Nicorette contains the active ingredient nicotine, which enters the body via the oral mucosa.
The intake of nicotine by means of Nicorette ensures that the withdrawal symptoms caused by nicotine withdrawal do not occur or at least occur in a significantly weakened form, thus reducing the patient's desire to smoke. These withdrawal symptoms primarily include irritability, restlessness, anxiety, increased appetite, concentration and sleep disorders, which in many cases cause the patient to take up smoking again. Nicorette serves as an aid and facilitates cessation even in difficult cases, whereby appropriate motivation, willpower and perseverance are necessary prerequisites for any cessation programme.
If you want to stop smoking or reduce your cigarette consumption, Nicorette will support you and can therefore be used:
- as a smoking cessation aid for smokers who want to give up smoking
- as an aid for smokers during certain periods when cigarette consumption is not possible or not desired (temporary abstinence)
- to reduce cigarette consumption for smokers who do not want to or cannot give up smoking.
The success rate can be improved through additional counselling and supportive measures. If you smoke less than 20 cigarettes a day, Nicorette 2 mg chewing gum is suitable. If you smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day, Nicorette 4 mg chewing gum is more favourable.
Nicorette® chewing gum is a sugar-free nicotine chewing gum for smoking cessation. Active chewing releases the active ingredient from the chewing gum, helps to distract you and alleviates your craving to smoke as well as other withdrawal symptoms that can occur when quitting smoking. These include, for example, increased irritability and nervousness, increased appetite, weight gain and sleep disorders.
Advantages
- Sugar-free nicotine gum with mint flavour for smoking cessation
- Relieves smoking cravings by making you active: The active ingredient is released from the chewing gum when chewing
- Chewing gum with 4 mg nicotine for smokers of more than 20 cigarettes per day
Mode of action
NICORETTE® chewing gum releases nicotine when chewed, which is absorbed through the oral mucosa. Of the total amount of nicotine in the chewing gum, around 50 % is absorbed by the body. Accordingly, the user absorbs about 1 mg of nicotine from a 2 mg chewing gum and about 2 mg from a 4 mg chewing gum. The nicotine levels in the blood when chewing a 2 mg chewing gum reach about 1/3 and when chewing a 4 mg chewing gum about 2/3 of the levels that would be achieved when smoking cigarettes.

How to use
Adults and older people:
You can chew a piece of gum every time you feel a craving for cigarettes. To increase the chances of success in quitting smoking and avoid relapses, it is important that you chew a sufficient amount of Nicorette chewing gum every day. Nicorette proved to be just as effective in smokers over 60 as in younger age groups.
Duration of use:
Nicotine replacement therapy:
Dosage for immediate smoking cessation
The 2mg nicotine gum is suitable for smokers who smoke up to 20 cigarettes a day. If your consumption is more than 20 cigarettes, then you should take the 4mg nicotine gum.
- Step 1: Week 1-6 - Approximately 1 NICORETTE® gum per hour. Ideally, you should take 8-12 pieces of nicotine gum per day, with a maximum of 24 pieces per day.
- Step 2: Week 7-12 - For the following 6 weeks, reduce the number of chewing gums to 0.
Use should last at least 4-6 weeks. Subsequently, the number of chewing gums should be reduced until the 12th week. Therapy lasting longer than 6 months is not recommended. Relapses can occur even after six months. Here it is advisable to have a chewing gum to hand.
