What is NR+?
Nicotinamide riboside (NR) is a powerful precursor to NAD+ in the human body. NAD+ plays a central role as a cofactor in many important biochemical processes and belongs to the B3 vitamin group. It plays a crucial role in the respiratory chain of the mitochondria, which are known as the ‘powerhouses’ of the cells. NR is often used as a dietary supplement as it has the potential to support energy production, cognitive performance and cellular regeneration. Numerous studies suggest that it could represent a promising approach to healthy ageing.
Function
NR acts as a precursor to NAD+. By increasing NAD+ levels, NR can help to boost metabolism and support cellular energy. TMG (trimethylglycine), on the other hand, acts as a methyl donor and plays an important role in the methylation process – a biochemical process that influences many functions in the body, including DNA repair, the functional regulation of genes and detoxification.
