Discover Mepitel®, the sterile wound spacer mesh with proven Safetac® technology from Mölnlycke. It minimises trauma and pain during dressing changes as it does not stick to the wound. Promotes undisturbed wound healing. Ideal for professional wound care.
Mepitel is a transparent, perforated and non-absorbent dressing. The open mesh structure allows the exudate to pass into an absorbent secondary dressing. This allows the frequency of dressing changes in the immediate wound area to be reduced and the secondary dressing to be changed with minimal irritation to the wound. The dressing has a unique self-adhesive wound contact layer - Safetac® technology. The wound contact layer minimises patient pain and trauma to the wound and surrounding skin when the dressing is removed.
Mepitel consists of:
- A wound contact layer made of soft silicone (Safetac)
- A transparent and elastic polyamide mesh with an open mesh structure
Areas of application
- Mepitel is a non-adherent mesh-like wound contact layer that enables exudate drainage and ensures fixation and protection of tissue.
- Mepitel is suitable for a wide range of exuding wounds, including skin tears, abrasions, surgical wounds, superficial burns, lacerations and cuts, split and full-thickness skin grafts, diabetic foot ulcers and venous and arterial ulcers.
- Mepitel can also be used as protection on non-exuding wounds, blisters, sensitive skin and large areas of fragile skin.

How to use
Mepitel can also be used by non-professionals under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
- Clean the wound according to medical standards and dry the surrounding skin thoroughly.
- Choose a Mepitel dressing that overlaps the wound and surrounding skin by at least 2 cm. Mepitel can be cut to size if required.
- Hold the larger protective film in place while you remove the smaller one. Moisten your gloves to prevent the Mepitel from sticking to them.
- Apply Mepitel to the wound and remove the remaining protective film. Smooth Mepitel firmly over the skin surrounding the wound to ensure good adhesion. If more than one Mepitel dressing is required, you can apply the pieces overlapping. Please ensure that the pores are exposed.
- Apply a secondary absorbent dressing over Mepitel. In problem areas or at joints (e.g. under the arm, under the chest, in the crook of the arm, groin or in deep wounds), ensure that there is sufficient padding so that the Mepitel lies flat on the wound surface.
- Secure the dressing with a suitable fixation.
Notes: Mepitel can also be used under compression. Mepitel is suitable for use in conjunction with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). Mepitel is also suitable for use in combination with a gel. When the absorbent covering dressing is saturated, it should be changed without removing Mepitel.
