Mölnlycke® Exufiber® Ag+ gel fibre dressing with silver sterile, 20 x 30 cm, 5 ST

Product information "Mölnlycke® Exufiber® Ag+ gel fibre dressing with silver sterile, 20 x 30 cm"

The Mölnlycke® Exufiber® Ag+ dressing effectively combats biofilm and bacteria. Thanks to Hydrolock® technology, the fibre gels, securely trapping exudate and promoting wound healing. Ideal for heavily exuding wounds.

Exufiber Ag+ is a sterile, soft fibre dressing made from highly absorbent and gel-forming polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibres, coated on both sides with silver sulphate. Exufiber Ag+ has a high absorption and retention capacity for wound exudate and maintains a moist wound environment. The structural integrity of Exufiber Ag+ facilitates removal in one piece. Upon contact with a fluid, Exufiber Ag+ releases silver ions and inactivates a wide range of wound pathogens, such as bacteria, fungi and moulds, as demonstrated in vitro. By reducing the number of microorganisms, Exufiber Ag+ can prevent and reduce the formation of bacterial biofilm, as demonstrated in vitro and in vivo. Exufiber Ag+ can be used as an effective barrier against microbial penetration of the dressing.

Usage

Exufiber Ag+ should be used by or under the supervision of healthcare professionals.

Superficial wounds

Use:

Clean the wound with saline solution or water in accordance with clinical standards.

  1. Dry the skin surrounding the wound thoroughly.
  2. Select the appropriate dressing size. To achieve optimal clinical results, the product must cover the wound bed and overlap the wound edges. The dressing will swell, causing the edges to contract as it absorbs wound fluid and begins to gel.
  3. Apply the dry Exufiber Ag+ dressing to the wound.
  4. Secure the wound with a suitable secondary dressing. The choice depends on the amount of exudate.
  5. Compression therapy may be used in combination with Exufiber Ag+.

Deep wounds and wound cavities

Application:

Clean the wound with saline solution or water in accordance with clinical standards.

  1. Dry the skin surrounding the wound thoroughly.
  2. Loosely fill the wound with the tamponade or compress, allowing the dressing to swell. When using the tamponade, cut it to the required length. Ensure there is an overlap of 2–3 cm beyond the wound edge so that it can be easily removed.
  3. Cover the wound with a suitable secondary dressing. The choice depends on the amount of exudate.
  4. Secure (or cover) the dressing, if necessary, with a self-adhesive wound dressing or a bandage.

Changing and removing the dressing

Both the wound and the dressing should be checked regularly. Depending on the condition of the wound and in accordance with standard clinical practice, Exufiber Ag+ can remain on the wound for up to 7 days. The secondary dressing should be changed based on the amount of exudate or before it becomes completely saturated.

  1. Remove Exufiber Ag+ by gently cleaning/rinsing with saline solution or water in accordance with clinical standards. Ungelated fibres become moist on contact with saline solution.
  2. If Exufiber Ag+ dries out and is difficult to remove, it should be moistened with saline solution or water in accordance with local regulations and left to soak until it can be easily removed. It may take a few minutes for Exufiber Ag+ to gel. Remove the dressing by gentle cleaning/rinsing. No interaction between Exufiber Ag+ and cleaning agents, oxidising agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide, or topical treatments has been demonstrated.

Remove Exufiber Ag+ before starting radiotherapy if the product is located in the area to be treated. A new dressing may be applied after treatment.

During electronic measurements, e.g. electrocardiograms (ECG) and electroencephalograms (EEG), avoid contact with electrodes or conductive gels.

Exufiber Ag+ is intended for short-term use. If silver-containing dressings are used on large wounds or over prolonged periods (e.g. for more than 28 days), the silver content in the serum may increase and silver may be deposited in the tissues or organs. The use of silver-containing dressings must be reviewed, taking into account their current effect. For longer-term treatment, a clinical assessment by a doctor is recommended. The wound should always be monitored for signs of infection. In the event of a clinical infection, healthcare professionals must be consulted. Exufiber Ag+ does not replace the need for systemic or other appropriate treatment of infection.
