Mexalen® rapid 500 mg film-coated tablets are an over-the-counter medicine containing the active ingredient paracetamol. Mexalen® rapid is used for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain and/or fever.

The active ingredient is paracetamol, which relieves pain and also reduces your temperature when you have a fever.

Mexalen rapid is suitable for adults, adolescents and children aged 6 years and over. If you do not feel better after 3 days, or if you feel worse, consult your doctor.

Indications

The pain-relieving and fever-reducing effects of paracetamol in humans depend on the dose administered. The oral dose depends on age and body weight (kg). The usual single dose is 10–15 mg/kg body weight; the maximum total daily dose is 60 mg/kg body weight. In all cases, the interval between doses should be determined by the symptoms and the maximum total daily dose. It must not be less than 4 hours.

The lowest dose required to achieve the desired effect should be used. You must not exceed the specified dose. The film-coated tablet can be divided into equal doses.

Body weight (age) – 22 kg–30 kg (children aged approx. 6–9 years)

  • Single dose (corresponding paracetamol dose/number of film-coated tablets): 250 mg (½ film-coated tablet)
  • Max. daily dose (24 hours) (corresponding paracetamol dose) (number of film-coated tablets/doses): 1,000–1,500 mg (maximum 2–3 film-coated tablets/4–6 doses)
  • Minimum interval between two doses: 4–6 hours

Body weight (age) – 30 kg–40 kg (children approx. 9–12 years)

  • Single dose (equivalent paracetamol dose/number of film-coated tablets): 500 mg (1 film-coated tablet)
  • Max. daily dose (24 hours) (equivalent paracetamol dose) (number of film-coated tablets/doses): 1,500–2,000 mg (maximum 3–4 film-coated tablets/doses)
  • Minimum interval between two doses: 4–6 hours

Body weight (age) – 40 kg–55 kg (children aged approx. 12–15 years)

  • Single dose (equivalent paracetamol dose/number of film-coated tablets): 500 mg (1 film-coated tablet)
  • Max. daily dose (24 hours) (corresponding paracetamol dose) (number of film-coated tablets/doses): 2,000–3,000 mg (maximum 4–6 film-coated tablets/doses)
  • Minimum interval between two doses: 4–6 hours

Body weight (age) – > 55 kg (Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and over)

  • Single dose (equivalent paracetamol dose/number of film-coated tablets): 500–1,000 mg (1–2 film-coated tablets)
  • Maximum daily dose (24 hours) (corresponding paracetamol dose) (number of film-coated tablets/doses): 3,000 mg (maximum 6 film-coated tablets/3–6 doses)
  • Minimum interval between two doses: 4–6 hours

Method of administration: For oral use. The film-coated tablets should be taken with a glass of water.

Duration of use: If you do not feel any better or actually feel worse after 3 days, consult your doctor.

Ingredients

  • What Mexalen rapid contains: The active ingredient is paracetamol. Each film-coated tablet contains 500 mg of paracetamol.
  • The other ingredients are: In the tablet core: pregelatinised starch (maize), calcium carbonate, povidone (K-25), crospovidone (type B), alginic acid, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate and in the film coating: hypromellose, polydextrose (contains sorbitol and glucose), medium-chain triglycerides, macrogol 3350, calcium carbonate, macrogol 400, phospholipids (from sunflowers) (E 322).
