Mepore® Film is a self-adhesive, absorbent film wound dressing for the treatment of wounds with low to moderate exudate, such as surgical wounds, cuts and grazes.

Mepore consists of:

  • an absorbent wound pad with an integrated, non-adhesive wound-contact layer
  • a self-adhesive border with a water-based polyacrylate adhesive. The polyacrylate adhesive is skin-friendly and free from organic solvents. The adhesive surface is covered with a protective paper, which enables sterile application.
  • a breathable outer non-woven fabric, which provides physical protection for the wound.

Advantages of Mepore® Film

  • Breathable
  • Easy to apply, even when wearing gloves
  • Protection against friction
  • Conforms to the body’s contours
  • Skin-friendly adhesive
  • Reliable and secure fixation
  • Maintains a moist wound environment
  • Bacteria- and virus-impermeable film
  • Impermeable to fluids

Indications

Mepore Film is ideal as a secondary dressing for covering and securing primary dressings, such as hydrogels, alginates or foam dressings. Furthermore, Mepore Film can be used as a primary dressing for a wide range of ‘clean’ wounds with little to no exudate:

  • Abrasions
  • Lacerations
  • Skin biopsy sites
  • Superficial burns
  • Superficial pressure ulcers
  • Closed surgical wounds
  • Prevention of skin damage, as well as for use as a shower plaster and secondary dressing.

Use
Mepore can be used by laypeople under the supervision of healthcare professionals.

  1. Clean the wound in accordance with clinical standards. Dry the skin surrounding the wound thoroughly. The use of moisturisers, gels or ointments on the skin surrounding the wound may impair adhesion and should be avoided.
  2. Remove the protective film and apply the adhesive side to the skin without stretching the dressing. Ensure that the absorbent wound pad covers the wound.
  3. Gently press down the edges to ensure proper adhesion to the skin.
  4. When changing the dressing, grasp the dressing at one side and slowly peel it away from the skin in the direction of hair growth.

Notes: Ensure that Mepore is not applied under tension to prevent shear forces that could damage the skin. When applying the dressing to joints, ensure that the joint’s range of motion is not restricted. Significant swelling may occur following some surgical procedures. In such cases, it may be better to use a more elastic dressing to avoid putting the skin under tension.
