View package leaflet

Mepitel® is a gentle, double-sided adhesive wound spacer – minimising patient discomfort during dressing changes. For the treatment of skin tears, grazes, surgical wounds, superficial burns, lacerations and cuts, etc.

Mepitel is a transparent, perforated and non-absorbent dressing. The open mesh structure allows exudate to pass through to an absorbent secondary dressing. This reduces the frequency of dressing changes in the immediate wound area and enables the secondary dressing to be changed with only minimal irritation to the wound. The dressing features a unique self-adhesive wound-contact layer – Safetac® technology. The wound-contact layer minimises pain for the patient as well as trauma to the wound and the surrounding skin when the dressing is removed.

Mepitel consists of:

  • A wound-contact layer made of soft silicone (Safetac)
  • A transparent and elastic polyamide mesh with an open-weave structure

Indications

  • Mepitel is a non-adhesive, mesh-like wound contact layer that allows exudate to drain whilst ensuring tissue stabilisation and protection.
  • Mepitel is suitable for a wide range of exuding wounds, including skin fissures, abrasions, surgical wounds, superficial burns, lacerations and incisions, split-thickness and full-thickness skin grafts, diabetic foot ulcers, and venous and arterial ulcers.
  • Mepitel can also be used as a protective dressing on non-exudative wounds, blisters, sensitive skin and large areas of fragile skin.

Use
Mepitel can be used by laypeople under the supervision of healthcare professionals.

  1. Clean the wound in accordance with medical standards and dry the skin surrounding the wound thoroughly.
  2. Select a Mepitel dressing that overlaps the wound and the surrounding skin by at least 2 cm. Mepitel can be cut to size if necessary.
  3. Hold the larger protective film firmly in place whilst removing the smaller one. Moisten your gloves to prevent the Mepitel from sticking to them.
  4. Apply Mepitel to the wound and remove the remaining protective film. Smooth Mepitel firmly over the skin surrounding the wound to ensure it is securely in place. If more than one Mepitel dressing is required, you can apply the pieces so that they overlap. Please ensure that the pores remain unobstructed.
  5. Apply a secondary absorbent wound dressing over the Mepitel. In problem areas or on joints (e.g. under the arm, under the breast, in the crook of the elbow, in the groin or in the case of deep wounds), ensure that there is sufficient padding so that the Mepitel lies flat against the wound surface.
  6. Secure the dressing with a suitable fixation method.

Notes: Mepitel can also be used under compression. Mepitel is suitable for use in conjunction with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). Mepitel is also suitable for use in combination with a gel. Once the absorbent covering dressing is saturated, it should be changed without removing the Mepitel.
