Product information "Mepilex® foam dressing 10 x 20 cm"
Mepilex® is a soft, silicone-coated foam dressing intended for the treatment of exuding wounds, including leg, foot or pressure ulcers and traumatic wounds such as skin tears or secondary healing wounds.
Mepilex is a highly flexible dressing that absorbs exudate, maintains a moist wound environment and minimises the risk of maceration. The dressing features the unique self-adhesive wound contact layer - Safetac® technology. The wound contact layer minimises pain for the patient and trauma to the wound and surrounding skin when the dressing is removed.
Mepilex consists of:
- a wound contact layer made of soft silicone (Safetac)
- a flexible, absorbent wound dressing made of polyurethane foam
- a breathable and waterproof outer polyurethane film
Areas of application
- Mepilex is intended for the treatment of a wide range of exuding wounds including leg, foot or pressure ulcers and traumatic wounds such as skin tears or secondary healing wounds. Mepilex can be used to protect damaged and/or sensitive skin and as part of a prophylactic therapy to prevent skin damage such as pressure ulcers.

How to use
Mepilex can also be used by non-professionals under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
- Clean the wound according to clinical standards.
- Dry the skin surrounding the wound thoroughly.
- Select a suitable dressing size. To protect the skin surrounding the wound from maceration and to ensure a secure hold, Mepilex must cover the dry skin surrounding the wound by at least 1-2 cm (for smaller sizes up to 12.5 x 12.5 cm). For larger sizes, the dry skin surrounding the wound must be covered over 3-5 cm. If necessary, Mepilex can be cut to fit the wound size and shape.
- Remove the first protective film and place the adhesive side on the wound.
- Remove the remaining protective film and smooth the dressing onto the skin. Do not overstretch the dressing.
- If necessary, Mepilex can be fixed with a bandage or other materials.
The interval for changing the dressing can be several days. Change the dressing before it is completely saturated, if there are signs of leakage or according to clinical standards. Mepilex can also be used under compression bandages and together with gels.
