Mepilex® Border Ag with Safetac® technology is a self-adhesive, antimicrobial, soft, silicone-coated foam dressing for use on moderately to heavily exuding wounds, such as ulcers, burns and pressure ulcers.
Mepilex Border Ag consists of a soft silicone coating (Safetac®) on the wound side, an absorbent wound pad made of polyurethane foam containing silver sulphate and activated charcoal, a layer of highly absorbent polyacrylate fibres, a non-woven fabric and a vapour-permeable but water-impermeable film.
Mepilex Border Ag is a self-adhesive, soft, silicone-coated foam dressing that effectively absorbs exudate, maintains a moist wound environment and has an antimicrobial effect.
Mepilex Border Ag contains silver sulphate, which releases silver ions on contact with fluids, thereby forming an effective barrier against bacteria and inactivating many wound-specific pathogens (bacteria and fungi), as demonstrated in anin vitro study. By reducing the number of microorganisms, Mepilex Border Ag also minimises odour formation.
The in vitro study demonstrated that Mepilex Border Ag inactivates wound-associated pathogens for up to seven days.
Safetac® is a unique silicone adhesive technology that reduces pain for patients and minimises trauma to the wound and intact skin.
Indications
- Mepilex Border Ag is indicated for use on moderately to heavily exuding wounds, such as leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, tumour wounds, second-degree burns, traumatic and surgical wounds, where it is important to maintain a moist wound environment, drain exudate, ensure gentle fixation and provide effective antimicrobial action.
- Mepilex Border Ag may be used on infected wounds as part of a holistic treatment plan under the supervision of healthcare professionals.
- Mepilex Border Ag can be used under compression.

Use
Please note that local hygiene measures must be observed before and during dressing changes.
- Clean the wound with saline solution or water in accordance with medical standards.
- Dry the skin around the wound thoroughly.
- Remove the protective film and apply the dressing to the wound with the adhesive side facing the wound. Do not overstretch the dressing.
- To achieve the best possible results, Mepilex Border Ag should overlap the wound edges by at least 2 cm.
Mepilex Border Ag is intended for short-term use of up to four weeks. For long-term use, a doctor should be consulted for a reassessment. Mepilex Border Ag should be used under the supervision of healthcare professionals.
Dressing change interval
- Depending on the patient and the condition of the wound and the surrounding skin, Mepilex Border Ag can remain on the wound for up to seven days, or for as long as indicated by standard clinical practice.
- Initially, more frequent dressing changes may be necessary, as a change in treatment may lead to an increase in exudate volume at the start.
